It's official, bitches!
NewFNP received a certificate and a letter today noting that she has completed her service commitment. Hells yes she did -- a year ago! But newFNP is inclined to disregard the delay and feel thankful that her brand name nursing school was paid for and that her three years in community health indentured servitude offered her an education in and of itself.
In retrospect, worth it. Worth every tear and every ounce of frustration. But she's not running back to sign up for more.

I am applying to be a NP ( either WHNP or FNP) at a "brand name school" as well. Could you consider a post on whatever program you are in that paid for your education? If you're willing to post about your academic experience too, I would love to read about it from your reflective perspective.

Brava! Good to know it can be done. Am currently applying to name brand schools to pursue midwifery, and hope to repay my loans the same way.
I'm awaiting the news of yes or no from them this year. I love my job where I work and hope that I can get my loans paid down. Cross your fingers!
Congrats! Okay, so I have a question for you. Would you do it again? I just signed my life away for the NFLP (Nursing Faculty Loan Program) to pay for my DNP ... I don't have to work in an underserved area, but I have to agree to teach in a nursing program of some sort. I am just hoping to hear you would do it again :)
Congrats!!! I'm hoping to do NHSC once I'm done with my brand name school....The loans really are staggering and I kind of feel like I have no other choice...
Hello! I am a soon to graduate FNP and am considering NHSC after graduation to pay for my insane balance of student loans. I am looking for some insight into the program. I realize you get penalized heavily if you don't fulfill the commitment and although I don't see anything like that happening - who knows. Was it tough to get through it???
Congrats on completing your NHSC commitment! I have been working in the Northwest Arctic for the Inupiat Eskimos and have 1o days left. I wish I could have described the absolute crazy that I encountered on a daily basis as well as you (perhaps I should have gave it a shot). A friend of mine and fellow scholar Beth Pferdihert turned me on to your site at the beginning of this adventure and I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful blog. If I ever had downtime in the radio room (you don't wanna know), I would often turn to your site for a good laugh, lesson, or commiseration. When you are as isolated as I have been it was a great comfort to know that I was not the only one out there dealing with this kind of fun. Knowing that a sense of humor is perhaps as valuable as any weapon in your clinical armory, I especially enjoyed yours. Keep it up and thanks again.
