Closing Time

It's time to go.

NewFNP has really enjoyed this blog over the last almost-six years, but it's time to move on. The blog will stay up and the email address will stay active so if you have a question for newFNP, she will happily respond.

Thank you all for reading and writing. Keep fighting the good fight.

Boola boola motherfuckers!

NewFNP out.

Inspired by your blog over the years, I finally started my own a few months ago... www.missionnp.blogspot.com.... would be so honored if you became a reader :)

10 more NHSC months and counting (four years of..... community "fun"? lol)

I have so enjoyed reading your humorous insights and experiences! You have been a source of inspiration as I returned to school to reach my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner (3 semesters to go, but who's counting?). Thank you! I will miss your wisdom and humor. All the best to you into the future! Aspiring FNP

So sorry to hear you won't be blogging, but all good things come to an end I guess! You're certainly no longer new, and life just gets more complex as we go on.

I've really enjoyed the wit and humor as I've taken my own path into nursing.

Good luck to you!

NewFNP, You will be missed. I've been checking for updates for a while and missed this goodbye post. I'm taking prereqs for nursing school and my Micro final is tomorrow. Yeah!

Your blog is funny!

You've inspired me to strongly consider NP school.

Your posts were really helpful to me by talking about gram stains, microbes, insurance, patients, etc. You gave me a glimpse of what it all looks like in a patient care setting when you put all the pieces together.

I read many of your posts to my kids, my husband and tried to share them with other students.

Thank you for the swears, laughs and the wisdom, New FNP. You're the reason I'm in FNP school. That, and my undying love of diabetes, HTN, and train wreck patients.

Enjoy what's next.

Thanks for having written! I've been reading this blog for a few years as I consider whether I want to work in health care and if so where in the system. Your blog has been both entertaining and informative. Best wishes in your future endeavors.

thank you for the post. I am an new ANP and thought I was the only one. Your blog describes how I felt my first week as an np.

NewFNP is a one-of-a-kind, awesome, and inspiring individual. A bonafide hero in my book. And I, too, found your blog too late in the game, sadly. But I would be dishonest if I did not admit to regretting the day I decided to become a NP. And I am dual-certified and licensed. So, I regret twice as much. I'm disgusted by all the same reasons you are, and then some: too much work, too little respect and support, crazy and inefficient office management, too few benefits, too little salary; and yes, bullying by other nurses continues to add the cherry on top. Why, why, why, oh why can this be? I am broken and can't get up. I did all the right things: graduated with 4.0, got one of the highest scores in my school's history on the ANCC, was absolutely unstoppable with boundless enthusiasm for the profession, and blah, blah, blah. It all did not matter in the end when confronted with the harsh realities of today's current job market, the economy, the uncertainties, awful EMRs, the bullying culture, suspicion, fear, creepy and arrogant recruiters, disrespect, ignorance, dishonesty, unprofessionalism, and outright greed, which all worked its magic to make my life a living hell. To be clear, this has been MY experience and has been MY reality. Your experiences may vary.
